MISSION:  Actively collaborate to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from Pittsburgh’s higher education institutions.

VISION: Strengthen the Pittsburgh region’s position as a leader in climate action by achieving carbon neutrality.

WHY HECC: Pittsburgh’s colleges and universities play a vital role in the city’s success, from developing the next generation of leaders to generating breakthrough discoveries. Similarly, Pittsburgh’s institutions of higher education have accepted responsibility for leading the way in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, banding together in 2008 to form the Higher Education Climate Consortium (HECC), which cooperatively collaborates on a single vision — a carbon neutral Pittsburgh.
